A Girl at Seventeen

"Take me out 'cause I'm not going home"
She yelled across the parking lot.
Turning to see her, he smiled then laughed
"Here we go; wonder what happened" he thought.

Idling over to where she stood
She jumped in his car shaking her head
"Just start driving, I don't want to talk.
When my parents find out, I'm dead"

Her troubles didn't amount to anything
But try telling that to a girl at seventeen

The four wheels felt like freedom
The ride with him forbidden
The wind in her hair felt like abandon
The rebellion like independence

And he was the means to ensure
She would enjoy the emotions for now
She knew it was only temporary
But boy what a feeling; Wow!

For now it was like living a dream
How great to be a girl at seventeen

She swore that she'd never go back
To a place where she didn't have control
To do so would surely be the death
Of her craving-for-indepence soul

And he knew he couldn't corral her
He didn't even want to try
Her wild spirit was an adventure
He wouldn't refuse her no matter the price

He just enjoyed living out this scene
He loved being with this girl of seventeen

He thought of her dad as they drove on
"That poor guy's on the losing end
There's no way he'll ever tame her
She won't ever give-in or bend"

And she knew tonight she'd end up at home
After all, where else could she go
But deep inside she'd made a stand
The independent streak continued to grow

She didn't consider what it would mean
She was just a girl at seventeen
