Cheap Praise

I write, and feel
pleased with my art
But it's personal
It exposes my heart

In it there may be
Allusion or rhyme scheme
That informs or garnishes
The overall theme

And there's risk
That I'll feel rejected
If my poem's not
By you eagerly accepted

Besides, in one
Quick cursory read
You may not see these
Details the art needs

Or you may not care
To read it that closely
Or might be too busy
To peruse it intently

Perhaps you'll see my poetry
As something quite bland
What's dear to me
To you's not that grand

And I don't want acclaim
That isn't sincere
Or adulation that's false
That's what I really fear

So I'm in a dilemma
Between sharing or not
I don't want your praise
Too cheaply bought
