I Met You On a Thanksgiving Day

I met you on a Thanksgiving day
A friend of my friend, what more can I say
I made the choice not to pursue
But I still kept a close eye on you.

I watched when I knew I wouldn’t be seen
When you were dressed in nice fitting jeans.
From videos at Stacy and Sue’s
To church dances, I watched with nothing to lose.

I watched you, Connie, right from the start
Just a born scammer perfecting his art
Then a funny thing happened on the way to the ball
Or was it while I was pacing the hall.

I realized my scamming had more serious intent
But to maintain my vow, on that I was bent.
I would not pursue until my friend
Had given his all and was ready the hunt to end.

Then came that day when he gave up the chase
And I took it up with no time to waste.
We went to dinner and to the park
I put my foot in my mouth, what a start.

I thought that I had really blown it then
I figured we’d never go out again.
But the night ended with a kiss on the porch
My spark had turned into a flaming torch.

Our dates increased, I saw you more often
My new goal was your heart toward me to soften
And in an effort to have more sway
I began to see you every day.

Throughout the days our memories increased
My love knew no bounds, it knew no surcease
And every moment we spent together
Made we realize for me there was no other.

I remember the moments lying in your arms
I remember thoughtless words – I meant no harm
I remember talks that seemed to last a week
I remember tears rolling down your cheek.

I have seen your love for your mom and dad
I have seen you when you’re really mad.
I have seen the way you care about your family
I have seen the way you care about me.

I love you, Jo, for your wit and independence
I love your smile and your common sense
I love it when you put Noxema on your face
I love your silence when you need your space.

I love your approach, it is so direct
I love the way you kiss and the effect
It has on me – I feel it from head to toe
It is a feeling I once thought I’d never know.

I love it when you take a stand
I love it when you make demands
I love your inward sensitivity
I love your outward subtle beauty

My love for you, Jo, is everyday new
Just look at yourself, I mean what else could I do.
Connie open your eyes and see
That I'd be the happiest man in the world if you'd just marry me.
