Fate Mocks

The belief of latent royalty lies
At heart of the childhood bedtime story,
We call them fairy tales 'cause they belie
Our lives, though to children they're prophecy.
The belief of coming earthly success
Fills young adults' new hearts with hope joyful,
We call them dreams 'cause we know the distress
Of failure, but to them it's just their goal.
The belief that the fantastic is real
For some is adequate proxy for life,
We call them fantasies 'cause they appeal
To our lost hope, but some see prospects rife.
Hope lives in youth 'cause they've not seen Fate mock
Dreams, but for us nothing came from her knock.
