Firmly Grounded

Firmly grounded by sturdy anchorage
Thick cables stretch across the canyon’s gap
Dangling the span safely above the rage
Of the rocky river’s dangerous trap.
Standing above it all, firm and faithful
The fixed towers support the wiry rope,
Bearing the burden of gravity’s pull
Steady towers dispel fear, and bring hope.
Like the cables holding fast to the span
Your love prevents my fall into the maw;
As the towers forestall gravity’s plan
Your love's strength restrains me from the world’s draw,
Ages from now the hymns of heav’n will tell
How your love saved me from the jaws of hell.
