Longing for the Moon

Lingering in our crumpled, wakeful morning sheets
People hellbent on leaving cram the city streets
Sounds of escape float on breezes to our window
In silent solitude we wonder who'll be first to go
There was a time when morning always came to soon
Waiting for an eclipse while longing for the moon

Sunlight says it's midday, we should be out of bed
What once was lethargy is apathy now instead
With nothing left to argue and even less to explain
There's no sense running over the same tracks again
It doesn’t seem that long ago we thought our love immune
Waiting for an eclipse while longing for the moon

I close the door softly on what I'll leave behind
There’s no blame to go around, no one’s been unkind
It’s just Humpty Dumpty and all our broken things
Seeing them before me feeds the need to take wing
A part of me I’ll leave behind in the waning noon
Waiting for an eclipse while longing for the moon
