Moving Fast

Christmas songs blared out of the radio
The windows down wind blowin' through
Sittin' next to me she said "let's go;
"There's nothin' 'round here I want to do"

"Can't this thing go any faster
I can't wait to leave this place behind.
Change the station.  What a disaster!
I'm done with tryin' to be kind"

The road's not straight but boy is it long
Sometimes there's now way of fixin' what's wrong
And movin' fast without looking back
Sometimes feels not only best, but the only tack

We picked up speed, wind blowin' her hair
She rocked to the rhythm, feelin' the beat
What a beauty! I wanted here right there
Bobbin' her head, keepin' time with her feet

"What do you got to take me out of here?
I just need a break for a little while"
She reached in back and grabbed a beer
And then another and another mile after mile

The road's not straight but boy is it long
Sometimes there's now way of fixin' what's  wrong
And movin' fast without looking back
Sometimes feels not only best, but the only tack

Her wildness was enticing
Her disregard seemed cool
Her carelessness felt exciting
Her impudence the truth

She screamed, "I just want to be heard
It's my life, I get to choose"
As Janis sang, "Freedom's just another word
for nothing left to loose"

The road's not straight and often ends fast
Sometimes there's no way of escapin' your past
And movin' fast with your eyes shut tight
Sometimes feels not only best, but exquisitely right
