My Poetry is Mostly Personal

My poetry is mostly personal;

Simple, painless, easy to understand;

My message is open, accessible,

I don't strive to be eloquent or grand.

In this I don't mean to be a critic

Of the masters whom I have grown to love;

Often in my work I try to mimic

Their style, rhythm, and lilt I'm so fond of.

And frankly I'm not as intelligent,

I've given no one reason to believe

That I could produce something as cogent

Or beautiful, I'm just not that naive.

But I'll write my meter less majestic

Even though I'll never pen a classic.
