Pillowed On Her Mother's Breast

Pillowed on her mother’s breast,
She listened to the tales
Of Cinderella and the rest;
Princess stories, she knew so well.

Of her handsome prince she dreamed,
Who would discover her royalty.
Nothing could stand in the way it seemed
Ever after they would live happily.

Putting on her dress that was new,
She hurried off to the dance.
Burdened with a midnight curfew,
She thought of glass slippers and romance

She dreamt of the first kiss
That would awaken the love inside.
The feelings of pleasure and of bliss,
Happily ever after, side by side.

Now, a mother, she boards a plane,
Her little princess holding her hand.
Nothing will ever be the same;
She can’t wait for the plane to land.

Her dream was just a fairy tale,
Now she returns to her family.
Never expecting a prince’s betrayal,
Sometimes ever after doesn’t end so happily.
