Sadness Abounds

Sadness abounds on this o'erburdened earth,
Tragedy’s fingers have touched nearly all;
Compassion and empathy are in dearth,
So many are at Evil’s beck and call.
To these many plagues I am not immune,
They've nearly o’erthrown my tranquility;
They've assailed me in attempts to impugn,
They've laid siege to my sad soul's sovereignty.
But you stepped between us, you were my shield,
I grew strong once again safe by your side,
My faith, my trust, my love to you did yield,
There were no fears left for me to hide.
I would be a fool to leave your embrace,
My greatest joys come when we're face to face.
