With Only Eighteen Years

With only eighteen years in your rear view
I cannot blame you for not looking back,
You have more of life to look forward to
Than memories in which to sit and bask.
Questions about who and what you will be
Will be answered by the passing of time,
Your future's shrouded in uncertainty
But chasing your destiny is sublime.
As I watch you go I do remember
The happy little girl whose smile bound me,
Now as I head toward my December
I look back on these memories fondly.
So understand why I want you to stay
Then hug me, kiss me, and be on your way.
