Shelter From the Storm

Eyes were staring at me, the gavel it came down
There was simply no escape from Javert's renown
Mercy was a fantasy, the verdict set in stone
"Come in"' she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"

Hollow-tipped the bullet flew; destruction in that gun
The shot left me empty, scared I started to run
I scrambled in darkness, clothes dirty, wet, and torn
"Come in", she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"

Living as an outcast, shunned from society
No future in front of me, dogged by my history
Living in emptiness, facing it all alone
"Come in" she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"

She set a plate before me, she treated me so kind
Confused I looked around thinking I would find
A trap set just for me 'cause my cover was blown
"Come in", she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"

The Law it never sleeps and Justice has no heart
I wake every morning again the chase starts
My feet ache from this race, both my soles are worn
"Come in," she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm"

I hear voices in the air and swirling in my head
I never know which ones to trust or even what they said
But a gentle repetition cleft from a rock and shorn
"Come in", she said, "I'll give you shelter from the storm”
