Today I saw you in my reflection
I wondered what you would say
Your lips moved, I only heard silence
I still don't know what part to play
Today I saw you in the river
Memories flowed quickly out of reach
Like sand slipping through my fingers
Or the roar of the waves on the beach
Today I saw you in the mountain
Years folded like a wrinkle in time
We embraced across the empty miles
But it was one more mountain to climb
Today I saw you in the clouds
Former shadows covered my heart
Your eyes flashed like accusations
Guilty, I waited the clouds to depart
If regret didn't hover like a raptor
If grief didn't muddy the road of flight
If heartache didn't clench like a fist
Then the burden I carry would be light
