Faithful Unwavering Unalterable True

Faithful, unwavering, unalterably true
She rises in the morning greeting the new
Glowing, warming, comforting too
The sun can be counted on to see it through.

Solid, steadfast, undeniably true
She keeps us grounded in the midst of the blue
Nuturing, growing, blooming too
The earth, our foundation, will see it through.

How can I thank the sun for being so true?
How can I thank the earth for being there too?
How does one thank for what one cannot repay?
How does one live with that feeling every day?

Yet here live I, a most unworthy one
Reaping rewards where I’ve earned none
Basking in your light, your warmth, your sun
Not knowing how to thank you for what you have done.

Shall I build an altar and let the sacrifice bleed?
For I do not come close in word, thought or deed
To showing you the love you’ve earned and need
And yet here I try in this sorrowful screed.

So warm sun, so solid earth, so my blessed one
I am sorry for the things that I have and have not done
And so I commit to you for all tomorrows and today
To thank you, to love you -- I will find a way.
