Morning crawls through your window and into your room
Rocking you gently awake with the lullaby of new life.
Your soft coo caresses my ears dispelling any gloom
That may have awaited me in this day of toil and strife.
Immediately awakened by your soft, gentle voice
I am drawn to come to your side.
All cares can wait; what and easy choice!
Forever next to you could I abide.
Your inquisitive hands have discovered your toes
And your happy hands have met in the middle.
Each new discovery to you a new world unfolds
Each moment you solve another of life’s riddles.
If only I could hold this moment forever,
And you, my precious daughter, would leave me never.
July 1995
Not strictly a sonnet due to meter but I was not focused on that in 1995
